Local materials and makers figure prominently in Populus’ interiors, which were designed by Heather Wildman of Wildman Chalmers and executed in collaboration with Fowler Architecture & Interior Design. 'We created a warm, neutral, cohesive palette of soft greens and browns,' says Wildman of the layers of storytelling that can be found in the textures, objects and materials throughout the hotel’s guestrooms, public spaces and two restaurants, as told in this article by Wallpaper*
We’re excited to celebrate the opening of Populus, a project that puts sustainability at the forefront of travel.
Collaborating with Urban Villages, Aparium Hotel Group, Studio Gang, and Fowler Architecture and Interior Design, we at Wildman Chalmers Design are proud to have brought biophilic design elements that reflect the beauty of the natural world and honor the Mountain West. With its Aspen-inspired architecture, curated art by Katherine Homes, and two distinctive restaurants—Pasque and Stellar Jay—Populus is as impactful as it is beautiful.
Plus, with every night’s stay, a tree is planted, allowing guests to directly support the planet.

Wildman Chalmers Design works with Downtown nonprofit cityLAB to build a 210-square-foot home on a small parcel in Garfield. Wildman Chalmers Design worked with Ms. Picker, CEO of CityLAB, on the design of a one-story, nearly 350-square-foot house built at 223 N. Atlantic Ave. in Garfield, PA. CityLAB is a nonprofit that performs experiments with the city of Pittsburgh as its laboratory. Experiments are chosen to seed economic development, generate buzz, and effect positive change in the city, from inside and out. The major attraction of tiny houses is the idea of living a simpler life with fewer possessions. But affordability also is a draw. The low price tag of most tiny houses means financial freedom. Ms. Picker hopes that Garfield, which is sandwiched between two urban redevelopment success stories, East Liberty and Lawrenceville, will be the next neighborhood to experience a rebirth.
