Schenley Park Mid-Century Modern Renovation and Addition
The owner of this one-story mid century modern home asked Wildman Chalmers Design to design a second story addition and renovate the first floor to create an open floor plan.
Four load bearing walls were removed from the first floor to open up the space and provide unobstructed views. A custom floating staircase made of glass and metal was designed to keep the site lines open and admit light into the core of the house. The first floor has a new modern kitchen with walnut cabinetry, walnut floors, and a custom stone fireplace. The second-floor addition includes a master bedroom suite with a full wall of windows and balcony overlooking the park as well as a walk-in closet, coffee bar, and laundry room. The balcony features a two-sided fireplace, a wall mounted television, and ample space for entertaining. A new mudroom and gym were part of the basement renovation. The owner’s art collection and furnishings, rugs, and lighting from Weisshouse completed the interior design.
